Two-time Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Tom Knudson and photographer Hector Amezcua from the Sacramento Bee discuss their investigative series ‘The Pineros – Men of the Pines.’ Their 9-month journey from the remote reaches of Washington State to the tiny mountain villages of Guatemala sheds light on the inhumane working and living conditions of Latino forest laborers. These workers have long battled abusive conditions including lack of training, protective gear, or medical supplies, but today, much of the mistreatment is continuing inside a government program that invites foreign workers to the United States to fill labor shortages.
